A spectator selects a card.
You announce that you will correctly guess which card they chose, then produce a transparent case folded in half.
Printed on the case is the 4 of Diamonds — but this is not the spectator's card. The case is opened to reveal the Ace of Diamonds printed on the inside — but this is not their card either.
You then produce a transparent plastic plate, thrust it into the case, and withdraw it.
The plate emerges bearing the 5 of Diamonds, while the 4 of Diamonds and the Ace of Diamonds have transferred onto the transparent plate.
This is the selected card.
This trick was invented by Shigeru Sugawara.
The transference of printed markings onto the transparent plate is a truly unique phenomenon — one that leaves even professional magicians struck with wonder.
