The magician displays a large board on which is printed a spread of five jumbo cards.
Four are black spot cards: the one in the middle is the queen of hearts.
The board is turned over, revealing the printed backs of the cards.
The spectator is given a large clip to try to locate the queen.
The spectator fails, not once, but several times in succession.
Finally, the magician offers to change the rules, making the game much easier.
This time, the spectator will win if any card other than the queen of hearts is clipped.
Even with this new favorable situation, the spectator loses the game, for when the board is now turned over its entire face is one giant queen of hearts!
