The magician spreads a Japanese fan and then closes it.
As he reaches into a spectator’s pocket or any other location, he produces a coin at the tip of the fan. The coin is placed into the magician’s pocket (or dropped into a coin pail), and he produces another coin from a different location. The coin production with the fan can be repeated endlessly.
At the end of the routine, the fan is handed to the spectator to demonstrate that there is no suspicious secret associated with the fan.
In the video, a Japanese coin is used; however, the unique gimmick invented by Mizoguchi allows you to use coins from other countries, such as the US Half Dollar, British 50 pence, or 2 Euro coins, and more.
