If nothing else, this small block of 'roughener', about the size of 2 sugar cubes, is the perfect item to include in your emergency repair kit. I would definitely NOT use this to replace the use of roughing spray, but to touch up just a few cards it is ideal. It takes a little practice to get the application the way you want it, so it it is best to experiment first on cards you do not need, before using on your favorite trick. Unfortunately, I have no idea how long this will last, or how long it will stay effective before it deteriorates, if it even does.
